Calculations Flashcards
What is the relative atomic mass?
The mass of an element’s atoms compared to the mass of a carbon-12 atom. It is always the larger number on the periodic table.
How do you calculate the relative formula mass?
Add up all the relative atoms masses.
What is a mole?
A word used to describe the amount of a substance (atoms, ions, molecules) in the mass of a chemical.
How many particles does one mole of a substance contain?
6.02 x 10^23 (Avogrado’s constant)
How do you calculate the number of moles?
Moles = Mass/Mr
What are the steps to finding reacting masses?
1) Balanced equation
2) Mole ratio
3) Calculate moles of known
4) use ratio to find mole of unknown
5) use moles and Mr to find mass of unknown
What is a dilute solution?
A small amount of solute in a volume of solvent.
What is a concentrated solution?
Large amount of solute in a volume of solvent.
How do calculate concentration?
Concentration = mass/ volume
What is 1dm cubed equal to?
1L, 1000ml, 1000cm cubed
