Radiesse compoosition
30% calcium hydroxylapetite suspended in 70% carboxymethocellulose gel carrier
Radiesse MOA
Stimulates fibroblast to create collagen
microspheres in product integrate with soft tissue causing stimulation over 1-2 years
Common reactions with Radiesse
Local swelling, erythema, itchiness, pain and lumpiness - resolves within 1-2 weeks
Radiesse indications
lower face
subdermal folds - nasolabial, marionette
lipoatrophy in HIV
off-label use for scars, cheeks and hands
Radiesse contraindications
BDD
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
active skin inflammation
inflammatory skin conditions
vermillion lip border
periorbital injection
superficial injection - can cause fistula, nodules, infection
Radiesse dilution
2% lidocaine
dilution is off licesnse oractive
1.5ml mixed with 0.26ml of lidocaine
Caution of radiesse in hands
when diluted with lidocaine can cause large amounts of swelling affecting function
Sculptra componenets and actions
Poly-L-Lactic acid
PLLA particles stimulate fibroblasts
non-human/animal derived
metabolised into lactic acid monomers
Sculptra protocol
3-4 injection
massage 5x a day for 5 days after injection
4-6 weeks apart, then yearly maintenance
results in 45-90 days
lasts up 2-4 years
Sculptra reconstitution
5ml bacteriostatic saline and 2ml lidocaine - allow 72 hours to fully hydrate
Sculptra indications
Mid face - cheek, nasolabial, submalar
lower face - marionette, pre-jowl sulcus, mandicular line
Sculptra contraindications
Keloid susceptibility
Hypertrophic scarring
pregnancy
breastfeeding
immunological disease
Sculptra adverse reactions
Nodules
vessel sclerosis if injected intravascularly
