Reduces the uptake of other drugs such as bisphosphonate iron levothyroxine and tetracyclines
When is caution needed with calcium
Been given IV because it can cause CV collapse in hyperkalaemia when given as calcium gluconate
Also if given by subcut can cause local irritation
