Act as PIC of an aircraft:
1.) For compensation or hire.
2.) Carrying persons or property for compensation or hire.
How would you describe “operational control”?
It means to have the authority over initiating, conducting, or terminating a flight.
If a friend owned an airplane and offered to pay you to fly it, could you accept?
Yes, your friend is providing the aircraft and taking operational control.
What are the restrictions on a commercial pilot if they do not hold an instrument rating?
An instrument rating, you can not fly passengers:
1.) At night
2.) in excess of 50 nautical miles from the departure airport.
What is a common carrier?
A commercial flight operation that involves holding out.
What are the four elements that define “common carriage”?
1) A holding out or willingness to…

What is a for-hire private carrier? Would they require an AOC?
Simply a commercial flight operation that does not involve holding out.
Yes. If the flying is not incidental to the business, commercial flight operations must have an AOC and operate under parts 121 or 135.
What is part 125?
It covers operations of large aircraft, not engaged in common carriage. Rules of this part are triggered when the plane’s max payload exceeds 6000lbs or has a seating capacity of 20 or more.
When is a type rating required?
When acting as PIC of an aircraft with:
1) max takeoff weight >12500lbs
2) turbojet powered
3) administrator requires a type rating
When is a high altitude endorsement required?
When acting as PIC of a pressurized aircraft, defined as an aircraft having a service ceiling or maximum operating altitude above above FL250
What is the currency requirement for carrying passengers during the day?
3 takeoff and landings in the proceeding 90 days in the same category, class and type of airplane.
What is the currency requirement for carrying passengers at night?
3 takeoffs and landings (to a full stop) in the proceeding 90 days in the same category class and type of airplane.
Must be one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise.
What are the currency requirements for an instrument rating?
6 HITS
6 - instrument approaches
H - Holding procedures
I - intercept a course
T - tracked a course
S - using navigational systems
In the previous 6 months, or IPC.
How long is a first class medical valid for?
12 months if under 40.
- Reverts to 3rd class
6 months if over 40.
- Reverts to 2nd for 6 months, then 3rd class after.
