CAHMS Flashcards
what are piagets stages of development
that children are not less intelligent than adults they just think differently and there is a qualitative change in how children think
how many piaget stages of development are there and what are they
0-2 sensorimotor stage
2-7 preoperational stage
7-11 concrete operational stage
11+ formal operational stage
what is the sensorimotor stage of piagets development
acquire knowledge trhough sensory experience and manipulating objects
by learning that objects are separate and distinct entities and that they have an existence outside of individual perception so that they children are able to attach names and words to objects
what is the preoperational stage of development
kids learn through pretend play
still struggle with logic and taking the point of view of other into consideration
and struggle with constancy
what is the concrete operational stage of development
from ages 7-11
think more logically but thinking can be very rigid
struggle with abstract and hypothetical concepts
kids less egocentric and think about others feelinngs
what is the formal operational stage of devleopment
the final stage of piagets development from ages 11+, there is an increase in logic, ability to use deductive reasoning and understanding of abstract ideas
what is Maslow
a hierarchy of need
that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and when one is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfil the next and so on
how does Maslows hierarchy of need work
one must satisfy lower level basic needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs
what s secure attachment
reasonably upset when their cargiver leaves but will be happy to see them return and will be quickly soothed
reflects an appropriately available and predictable caregiver 70% of infants
show little interest in their caregiver, although will cry when they leave the room
don’t seem pleased when their caregiver returns, often turning their back on them and trying to get away
AVOIDANT attachement
this reflects caregivers that have been absent, distant or disinterested
initially don’t want to leave their caregiver to explore the room
cry when their caregiver leaves and when they return seem to want to be consoled but resist it, they seem angry
