Cabling and Topology Flashcards
Bus Topology
One long “bus” cable that everyone tapped into called a “drop cable”.
Ring Topology
A literal ring of hosts connected by cable.
Star Topology
“Box” in the center that then connects to each host through a cable and repeats all messages to every host.
Star-Bus Topology
Hub/Switch That acts as a centralized “bus” that every host connects to. (Primary topology used today)
Mesh Topology
Used primarily for wireless networks. Every host connects to every other host at the same time.
COAxial Cable
Common Axis
RG means?
Radio Grade: term used to define the thickness of the cable and conductor in cabling.
OHMs
Measure of resistance for cabling.
RG-58
50 OHMs. A very old type of coaxial cabling. Uses BNC connector
