Q
What is the equation for predicted body weight?
A
Men: 50 + 2.3*(Height inches - 60)
Women: 45.5 + 2.3*(Height inches - 60)
2
Q
Describe pH stat and the risk associated with it in deep hypothermic cardiac arrest
A
In pH stat CO2 is added to maintain a constant pCO2 and pH despite cooling. This is associated with an increased embolic stroke risk 2/2 cerebral vasodilation and increased CBF.
3
Q
What two medications have active metabolites that accumulate in renal failure?
A
Morphine: M6G (respiratory depression) M3G (neuroexcitatory effects)
Meperidine: Normeperidine (neurotoxic, seizures)
