Roles and responsibilities under CDM

A

Client
Arrangements for managing project

Arrangements are reviewed throughout

Provide pre construction information to all designer and contractors asap

Before construction, Provide pre construction plan drawn up by contractors and principal contractors

Ensure the principle designer prepares the health and safety plan

Designer
Seek to avoid hazards or minimise risks
by design
Provide drawings and and information where risks can’t be avoided

Principle designer
Prepare h&s file
Plan, manage and coordinate h&s in the pre construction phase
Identify elimination and control of foreseeable risks and ensure designers carry their duties
Information to duty holders particularly principal contractors to help them manage plan and coordinate work.

Principle contractor
Plan man mon h&s in the construction phase
Prepare construction phase plan
Organising cooperation between contractors
Coordinate legal compliance with contractors
Consult workers on their h&s

Contractor
Plan manage monitor work under their control
Coordinate activities with others in project team
