C9 Flashcards
How are the elements in a periodic table arranged?
By atomic number.
What are groups in the periodic table?
Columns in the periodic table that use roman numerals.
what are the properties of a metal?
Large atomic radius, conduct heat and electricity, malleable and ductile, shiny, have a range of boiling points.
what are the properties of a metal?
Large atomic radius, conduct heat and electricity, malleable and ductile, shiny, have a range of boiling points.
What are the properties of a non-metal?
Small atomic radius, does not conduct heat or electricity,
generally low melting points, brittle, dull.
Where are the metals and non-metals in the periodic table?
From left to right - metal to metalloids to non-metal
What is a metalloid?
What are the trends in Group 1?
As it goes down the column, the density increases, the melting point increases and the reactivity increases. Reacts with water vigorously.
What are the trends in Group 7?
As it goes down the column, the melting and boiling point increases, the density increases, the colour gets darker and the reactivity decreases.
What are the properties of transition elements?
High density, high melting point, coloured compounds.
