C8-Chromatography Flashcards
Define Formulations
A substance with a specific quantity made for a specific purpose
Define a substance which is pure
A substance with only 1 compound in it
What does this mean the temperature of a pure substance will be?
A specific temperature
What is difference between mobile and stationary phase during chromatography
Mobile=part that moves(ink)
Stationary=part that doesn’t(paper)
Step by step, explain chromatography experiment
1-Draw solvent and base line in pencil
2-Use capillary tube to add on ink
3-Put in beaker with water in
4-As water goes up ink samples move further up (more soluble ink means it spends more time up)
What is the purpose of chromatography
To see the distance travelled by a particular ink and see if it has any other inks in it.
Test for oxygen
Lit splint, will relight
Test for chlorine
Litmus paper, bleaches white
Test for carbon dioxide
Put in limewater, goes cloudy
Test for hydrogen
Lit splint, squeaky pop
