C8 Flashcards
It describes the process of providing plants
the conditions that will make them free of weeds, pests
and diseases.
Crop protection
What are the Methods of Pest Control
- Cultural control
2 Ecological control - Biological control
- Physiological control
- Chemical control
- Flame control
- Mechanical control
Modification of cultural practices such as time of planting
and crop rotation.
Cultural control
Change in the environment of the crop and the pest which
favors the survival of the crop such as flooding to kill
insects and weeds.
Ecological control
Introduction of certain insects which feed on pests,
application of chemosterilants to render the male sterile,
or planting of certain plants whose odor drive pest away.
Biological control
Use of tools, implement and machines to reduce or eliminate weeds
and insects such as in land preparation, cultivation and weeding
Mechanical control
Percentage of weeds removed/destroyed per unit area
Weeding index
Implement used to remove/destroy the weeds from an agricultural land
Weeder
Type of weeder with rectangular, triangular or crescent shapes with cutting edges sharpened and hardened
Blade type
Type of weeder with straight, curved, round or squared cross-section steel rods with sharply pointed and hardened soil engaging ends.
Tine type
Type of weeder with curved or straight spikes or puddles radially attached to a common axle, which rotate to uproot and bury weeds.
Rotary type
Type of weeder which utilizes either blade, tine or rotary soil working parts for dry and wet field weeding.
Push-type weeder
Type of weeder which utilize either blade or time type of soil working parts with short (0.15 m to 0.5 m), medium
(>0.5 m to 1 m) and long (>1m) handles.
Hand-held weeder
Type of rotary weeder driven by its own engine for wet field weeding.
Power weeder
Sprayer which is operated manually with a lever and can
be carried on the back of an operator for spraying.
