C6 Flashcards
the process of preparing the soil
to provide a favorable soil environment for plant germination and growth.
Land preparation
process of mechanically altering some
physical characteristics of the soil for it to be ideal for growing crops.
Tillage
The purpose of tillage is to increase ped/clod size, loosens and aerates the top layer of soil to
facilitate planting of the crop.
T or f
F-DECREASE ped/clod size,—-
Tillage controls weeds (t or f)
T
Tillage reduce wind and water erosion by leaving a smooth surface.
T or f
F- ROUGH SURFACE
- is the first tillage activity after the last harvest and normally the most aggressive tillage operation.
- It is done at a depth of 10 to 15 cm with varying clod sizes. It destroys
weeds, promotes soil aeration and water accumulation.
Primary tillage
The ff are Primary tillage implements. EXCEPT
Moldboard Plow
Disc Plow
Trailing Tine Plow
Rotavator
Offset Disc
Rotavator- secondary tillage implement siya
is tilling the soil shallower than primary tillage. It is done after the primary tillage.
It uses secondary tillage implements such as disc harrows, rotavators, or peg tooth type harrows
Secondary tillage
It is a Systems of Tilling Rice Fields that is the usual way of preparing rice fields for
planting. The soil is tilled in a saturated or flooded condition.
Wetland tillage
Is both for lowland and upland fields
where the soil is dry during land preparation. This is done to
obtain a mellow, firm seedbed for sown seeds to germinate
in, control weeds and incorporate organic materials into the
soil.
Dryland tillage
Dryland tillage requires less water and
it helps control golden snail, and
it promotes soil aeration.
T or f
T
The ff are Steps of field preparation using
dryland tillage system.EXCEPT
- Ploughing the field without water
- Perform primary tillage operations
3.. Harrowing the field without water - Repair the dike to impound water
- Harrow the field 2-3 times at 5-7days interval
with water - Level the field
- Perform primary tillage operations- wetland siya
3 tillage patterns
Circuitous Pattern
Up and back or
Headland pattern
Land System pattern
Also called the walking tractor, iron buffalo, steel buffalo or hand tractor.
They are used in many rice producing countries.
Two wheel Tractor
These tractors have a forward mounted engine which is counter- balanced by the equipment attached behind the two drive wheels.
