shaken baby syndrome
physical + cognitive impairments caused by violently shaking a baby/young child
-results can be: disability, blindness, hearing impared, death, brain damage, unconscious/unresponsive, seizures, stop breathing, growth/developmental prob.
-large babies head rest on weak neck muscles, brain bounces back and forth causing brain injury to tissues. blood vessels can tear and blood can collect inside the head = bleeding around brain, eyes
sudden infant syndrome
sudden + unexplained death of a healthy infant under 1y.o
thrush
common yeast infection: appears like cottage cheese/milk curds found on sides and roof of baby’s mouth + tongue
