C5.3 Equilibria Flashcards
What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction where the products can react to for the original reactants. The symbol for this type of reaction is a double arrow.
What does ‘hydrated’ mean
Hydrated means that the molecule is surrounded by water molecules. For example:
CuSO4.5H2O means that each copper iron is surrounded by 5 waters
What does anhydrous mean?
Without water
What does Le Chatelier’s principle state?
If dynamic equilibrium is disturbed by changing the conditions, the position of the equilibrium moves to counteract the change. In other words, changing the temperature of a reaction will be cancelled
What is equilibrium?
When the rates of forward reaction and backward reaction become equal
What is dynamic equilibrium?
When the forward and backward reactions still happen while the rates of forward and backward reaction are equal
When does equilibrium position move?
The equilibrium position give you an idea of the ratios between the reactants and products
