Q

Why do group 1 elements have similar chemical properties?

A

All the atoms have one electron in their outer shell and they LOSE this electron to form a positive ion.

Q

Why does reactivity increase as you go down the group?

A

The further you go down the more electron shells atoms have. This means that the outer shell is further away from the nucleus so the attraction gets weaker therefore the atom loses the electron quicker
