C4 Chemical Changes Flashcards
What happens during a displacement reaction?
A more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal.
What is OILRIG?
Oxidation is loss of electrons, Reduction is gaining electrons.
What are the products of a neutralisation reaction?
Salt and water.
What are the pHs of acids?
0-6
What is the pH of a neutral solution?
7
What is the pH scale of an alkali?
8-14
What is a strong acid?
A strong acid completely dissociates when dissolved in solution. E.g. hydrochloric acid.
What is a weak acid?
Weak acids only partially dissociate when dissolved in solution. E.G. ethanoic acid.
What is an anode?
A positive electrode. Attract the cation (+)
What is a cathode?
A negative electrode. Attract Anions (-)
