C3 Equilbrium Flashcards
What does equilibrium mean?
The rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction.
What will reversible reactions create in a closed system.
Equlibrium.
What is the position of equilibrium ?
The relative amounts of the products and reactants.
What is the effect of temperature on equilibrium?
All reactions will be exothermic on one direction and endothermic in the other.
Increasing the temperature will mean, the endothermic reaction will increase to use the heat.
Reducing the temperature will mean the exothermic reactions will increase to produce more heat.
What is the equation which involves the creation of ammonia?
N”2” + 3H”2” = 2NH”3”
Where does the nitrogen for the haber process come from?
Fractional distillation of air.
Where does the hydrogen used in the haber process come from?
It comes form methane.
What are the conditions used in the haber process?
200 atmospheres of pressure, 450C and a iron catalyst.
What is ammonium used for ?
Fertiliser.
When the harder process is done, what will you get?
A mixture of methane and nitrogen and hydrodrgen.
How are hydrogen and nitrogen removed form the end of the harder process?
Cool it down so the ammonium freezes to liquid while the others remain gas.
