C2.6 Flashcards
What can be made from acids
Soluble salts
What can be made from solutions of ions
Insoluble salts
When does a neutralisation reaction happen
When a acid and alkali react
What are the state symbols
S
L
Aq
G
How can soluble salts be made
By reacting acids with: metals, insoluble bases and alkalis
What are not all metals suitable for
Reacting with acids
Why are not all metal suitable to react with acids
The metal is too reactive or not reactive enough
What happens when you react acids with insoluble bases
The Base is added to the acid until no more can react and then the excess is filtered off
What can indicators be used for
To show when the acid and alkali have completely reacted to produce a salt solution
What can be crystallised
Salt solutions to produce solid salts
How can insoluble salts be made
Mixing appropriate solutions of ions so that precipitate can be formed
What can precipitation be used for and example
To remove unwanted ions from solutions e.g treating water
Examples of 2 bases
Metal oxides and hydroxides
What are alkalis
Soluble hydroxides
What do the production of particular salts depend on
The acid used
The metal in the base or alkali
How does ammonia produce an alkaline solution
Dissolving ammonia in water
