C2 Flashcards
Who was the first person to make a periodic table and their arrangement
John dalton made a table of 20 elements in increasing weight
Who was the second person to make a periodic table and it’s arrangement
John newlands made a table of 62 elements and arranged them into 8’s but the pattern broke easily
What was the only accepted periodic table and why
Dimitri mendeleev made a table of increasing weight and chemcial similarity. He also left gaps for future elements
What are the unreactive gases
Group 0
How are group 0 unreactive
Because they are full of electrons and so don’t want to lose or gain
What are the main difference between non metals and metals in terms of electricity
That metals conduct electrcity but non metals are electric insulators
What determines the chemical properties of an element
The number of electrons in the outermost cell
What is the most reactive group
Group 7
What is a periodic table arranged in (not in terms of groups and periods)
Chemical similarity and atomic number
Why are noble gases so unreactive
Because they don’t want to lose or gain and electron
What do the atoms of metals tend to do in terms of electrons?
Lose electrons
What is the group number in the periodic table equal to
The amount of electrons in the outermost shell
What is the outermost cell
The last shell of an atom
What are the elements in group one called?
Alkali metals
What happens to the melting points and boiling points of group one elements as they go down the group?
It decreases
