C1 States of matter Flashcards
what are the three states of matter
solid
liquid
gas
solid to liquid
melting
liquid to gas
evaporation
gas to liquid
condensation
liquid to solid
freezing
how are particles spaced in a solid
liquid
gas
solid - touching / arranged in rows
liquid - touching but spaced out
gas - not touching and spread widely
energy in a solid liquid and gas
gas low energy
solid high energy
liquid not much energy
why does the movement and arrangement of particles change from a solid to a gas
a solid to a gas means the particles become more widely spread from eachother and it allows the particles to move more as there’s more space for them to move
movement from liquid to a gas
more movement less energy, not arranged in any particular way and gas particles move lots more
