Narrative trope?
Describes commonly recurring elements in a narrative, including literary devices, cliches and conventions.
Disjuncture?
Lacking unity, thus creating a separation or disconnection, for example between the lyrics and the visuals in a music video.
Motif?
A dominant or recurring theme or idea in literary, artistic or musical work.
Extended metaphor?
A comparison between two dissimilar ideas in order to amplify meaning, which may extend throughout the text.
Mediated?
This refers to the way in which the media present aspects of the world to the audience. Newspapers act as a mediator constructing stories and, in the process, encoding meaning
Standalone images?
Arresting images with no story attached. They may be used as a hook to attract an audience.
Popular press?
Rfers to the cheaper newspapers with a mass circulation. They are also commonly known as the tabloid press.
Quality press?
Refers to newspapers that are distinguished by their seriousness. They cover the news in more detail and international stories. They were previously known as broadsheet newspapers.
