C1 Flashcards
How do you work out the relative formula mass of an isotope?
(Percentagemass of isotope a) + (Percentagemass of isotope b) / 100
What is the radius of an atom?
1x10^-10/0.1nm
What was the Alpha Scattering experiment?
Conducted by Ernest Rutherford, involved gold foil and alpha particles. Let to the discovery of the nucleus and the creation of the 1st nuclear model.
What was Dalton’s model?
Dalton’s model: All stuff is made of tiny atoms that can’t be broken. Different atoms have different sizes and weights. When they team up to make compounds, they do it in simple ratios.
What was the plum pudding model?
J.J. Thompson’s model. The plum pudding model says atoms are like a ball of positive charge with negative electrons scattered inside, like plums in a pudding.
what does filtration involve?
Insoluble solids and a liquid.
What does crystalization involve?
Soluble solid from a solution
What does distillation involve?
Solvents from a solution
What does fractional distillation involve?
two liquids with similar boiling points
What does Chromatography involve?
identify substances from a mixture in solution
