Q

What findings on AUS helps you decide that the fetuses are mature?

A
  • Clear line of demarcation between renal medulla and cortex
  • Visualization of striations in the intestinal wall and peristalsis,
  • Fetal HR coming down from the 200’s to the more 180’s

Q

While a P4 (at least done on an Immulite machine-I don’t necessarily trust the in house ones) < 2ng/ml tells you it is safe to cut, there are a signficant percentage of bitches whose progesterones DO NOT drop below 2 ng/ml . T/F

Q

how to instruct owner regarding temperature drop?

A

monitor bitch when at rest for 20 minutes TID starting several days prior to the first potential due date so they can see what the normal variation is (in my bitches 101 to 99) and look for a drop a full degree below the low end of the normal variation (in my bitches 98 or 97.9F).

*There is also the complication that if the owner takes the temperature inside feces the temperature read will be lower than the normal range.

Q

ONLY planned C-section is one where good OVT is done-the rest are essentially an emergency C-section, although the extent of the emergency is determined by how much money they are spending on testing at the parturtion end. T/F

Q

In cases, were we donot know OVT I schedule them for their first P4 about _____ days after breeding date. I assume they could be ± __ days from that point. Rarely are they ready that day. If I see progesterone dropping, I will start to do ultrasounds.
