C-27J TAWS & TCAS Flashcards
TAWS active from:
30 feet after takeoff until landing
TAWS warnings cannot be canceled, except:
GLIDE SLOPE and TOO LOW FLAPS (by pressing HUSH button on either control wheel)
Once cancelled, will GLIDE SLOPE and TOO LOW FLAPS sound or appear again?
Only after the reset parameters are met (flying below 30 AGL or climbing through 1500 AGL)
Two TAWS Mission Modes:
NORMAL and TACTICAL (inhibits warning envelopes to allow more aggressive flight ops)
What triggers “BANK ANGLE” ?
Bank angle is greater than 61 degrees above 130 feet, reducing to 10 degrees at 30 feet or less
What triggers “GLIDE SLOPE (soft voice)” ?
Deviation below glide slope greater than 1.3 dots
What triggers “GLIDE SLOPE (loud voice)” ?
Deviation below glide slope greater than 2 dots
What condition triggers “TOO LOW FLAPS” ?
Gear is down, radalt is 245 feet or less, and airspeed is less than 159 knots
What condition triggers “ TOO LOW GEAR “ ?
Gear is UP, radalt is 400 feet or less, and airspeed is less than 150 knots
What is the TCAS basis of operation?
TCAS identifies nearby aircraft with operating transponders. Mode 3A are processed for lateral data, Mode 3A & C provide lateral and vertical data. Warnings are based on predicted flight paths.
What is the TCAS FORWARD airspace coverage?
40 nm (15 nm in high density area)
What is the TCAS ABEAM coverage area?
15 nm
What is the TCAS AFT coverage area?
12 nm
What is the TCAS VERTICAL coverage range?
+/- 9000 feet
What is the size of the TCAS “bubble” around the aircraft?
1200 feet
