in rivers, the total load of material actually transported by a river
Cavitation
A type of hydraulic action where collapsing air bubbles create a small shock waves.
Channel flow
the name given to water moving through a defined channel. e.g a stream or river
Channel storage
water contained within a river channel or stream
Competence
the maximum size of material that a river is capable of transporting
Corrasion
when sand and stones carried by the river rub against the riverbank and the riverbed and knock off other particles; also knows as abrasion
Corrosion
when asides in the river dissolve the rocks that make up the bank and the riverbed. e.g the dissolving of limestone by water; see also solution
Cuspate delta
A delta where material from the river is evenly spread on either side of the channel; this means that as the river meets the sea the land around the mouth of the river forms a shape like the head of an arrow jutting out into the sea,. e.g the Elbro Delta, Spain.
Cutoff
another name for an oxbow lake.
