SOP Requirements:
- Maint. 100m from wire when flying parallel to wire
- Cross wire at supporting structure or marking device
- Overfly by 50
Contour/LL, 25
NOE - 100m prior/after - Expt w/in apprvd corr, rts, & trans., all microw, radio, TV, and other twrs will be avaoided by 500m clr of supporting or Gay wires.
- Underflying wire is Prohibited
Charts, Photo, & Objective Cards
The following tips are used for preparing charts, photographs, and objective cards:
- Post charts, photographs, and objective cards (not kneeboard) in the sequence of discussion during the OPORD brief. Accurately construct charts and objective cards. Label charts and objective cards not reproduced to scale as “not to scale.” Place required items on charts, and refer to them, as necessary, during the mission brief.
- Prepare and orient charts and objective cards in the direction of approach, relating to magnetic north or in the direction of landing/takeoff. Photos and overhead imagery should be oriented as if viewed from the direction from which they were obtained.
Include the following information on the objective card diagram:
- Name of objective area.
- Grid: military grid reference system or latitude/longitude.
- Landing direction.
- Landing formation.
- Frequency and call sign.
- Passenger entry/exit.
- Go around direction.
- Weapons control status/measures.
- Fields of fire.
- Hazards and markings.
- Key terrain.
- Alternate (if required).
What are the load carrying capacity classifications?
Mil Load Classifications
- 50 Average traffic route
- 80 heavy traffic route
- 120 very heavy traffic route
Route recon: bridges, tunnels, underpasses
Clearence less than ______ is considered an obstruction.
4.3m
Route recon: roads
Steep grades of ______ or greater and shark curvess with _______ or less radius reduce the ______ and are likely enemy ________.
- 7
- 25-meter
- suatability
- ambush sites
What are the three types of masking/unmasking?
- In flight
- Laterally, at a hover
- Vertically, at a hover
Masking and unmasking
Ensure the exposure time does not exceed ______ when unmasking the aircraft.
10 seconds
LZ/PZ Technical: Ground Slope
Normally if ground slope is greater than ___, helicopters cannot land safely
15°
LZ/PZ Technical: Size of LZ/PZ
Generally, the minimum recommended landing point separation is _______ meters per aircraft.
25 to 80
What are the techniques of visual aerial observation?
Stationary and motive
Aerial Observation: Stationary technique
This technique is used at _________ with the helicopter hovering in a _________ position.
NOE altitudes
Concealed
Aerial Observation: Motive technique
This technique is used when the aircraft is operating at _________ and at airspeeds of generally _________.
terrain flight altitudes
10 KIAS or faster
Aerial Observation: Motive technique
The entire area on ______ of the aircraft is divided into two major sectors: _________ and _________.
either side
the non-observation sector.
observation work sector.
When using the staitonary technique, what does the crewmember initially do?
Makes a quick, overall search for sightinhs, unnatural colors, outlines or movements.
How big are the overlapping scanning intervals when using the stationary aerial observation technique?
50 meters, until the entire area has been covered.
Aerial Observation: Motive technique
The observation work sector is subdiveded into what two smaller sectors?
The acquisition and recognition sectors.
What is the acquisition sector?
Primary area of search. The forward 45° area to either side of the center of the observation work sector.
What is the recognition sector?
Remainder of observation work sector (not-acquisition sector).
SOP:
What are the required pubs/blank forms?

How many days is a helmet and vest inspection valid?
180 days
Shell GO-around procedures
Climb straight ahead to traffic pattern altitude, make a left/right turn to the south as directed by ATC, and re-enter the traffic pattern as directed by ATC.
SOP IIMC actions, after AC control has been established.
- Set Transponder to emergency 7700.
- Climb to a minimum altitude of 3500’ MSL (5000’ MSL when cairns ARAC is not in operation due to Jacksonville/Atlanta center coverate limitations.
- Contact Cairns Approach Control on emergency frequency 243.0/121.5
- State call sign and AC type.
- State IIMC and intentions
- After contact established, inform:
- Position, as accurately as possible.
- Altitude
- Heading
- Fuel remaining in hours and minutes.
- Persons on board.
