Engine Oil Storage Tank Description
- Located at station 430 on the canted deck
- Side by side separate tanks
- 3.63 US Gallon Volume, 2.08 US Gallons, 1.32 Gallons usable, and 1.55 gallons for expansion
- MIL-L-23699
- Sight gauge, filler cap w/ strainer, and common scupper.
-Check valves for when engines are not running
Engine Oil Shutoff Valve Description
- 28VDC, with associated circuit breaker protection
- Energized closed when Fire “T” handle is pulled
- Located just below the Oil Tanks on the canted deck
Engine Oil Pump Description
- 5 element constant displacement pump
- Mounted to the rear pad of the accessory gear box
- Single element provides oil to bearing nozzles
- Other four elements scavenge oil back to the sump
Engine Oil Cycle
Engine oil flows from the respective tank, through the shutoff valve and down to the lubrication pump. From there oil is sent through the 40 micron wafer type filter housed in the accessory gearbox. If there is a delta P of 15 - 21 psi, oil is bypassed from the filter. Oil is routed to the number 1 through 5 bearings and scavenged back to the lube pump. The number two thrust bearing bearing is pressurized from the 10th stage air and mixes with oil. During scavenge, this oil is sent to the Aux Oil Sump to deaerate on it’s way back to the pump. Oil from the pump is sent through the cooler and back to the tank.
Engine Oil Pressure Indication
- Dual Pressure indicators powered by 26 VAC.
- Indicates when pressure drops between 7 and 10 PSI with decreasing pressure.
- Light extinguishes when pressure is between 8 and 12 PSI with increasing pressure.
- Normal Range is 20 to 60 psi and total range is 8 to 75 psi
Engine Oil Temperature Indication
- Engine Oil Temp is sensed at the inlet port, powered by 28 VDC.
- There is no associated light with the oil temperature
Fuel System Description
- Engine driven fuel pump mounted to the accessory drive gearbox below the fuel control.
- Electrically driven submerged boost pumps located in the fuel tank.
- Engine Fuel Shutoff Valves are activated by a center console switch or Fire “T” handles.
- Fuel quantity indicator is a single gauge with dual pointer.
- Fuel Quantity Test Switches to test the gauge.
- Fuel Crossfeed Switch
Auxiliary Fuel System Description
- Used during the start process
- Auxiliary Metering Valve
- Temperature Compensating Bellows
- Temperature Compensating Metering Valve.
- Opposite flow ratio from primary system.
- Aux flow is stopped at 46% Ng.
Fuel Control Start Process
- Fuel Control senses; T2, Ng, and Am position.
- Establishes acceleration schedule
- Fuel moves from the pump to the control.
- Fuel splits and flows into main and aux metering valves
- Fuel quantity is determined by fuel temp
Fuel Control Description
Fuel Control Measures Five Parameters:
- Am (engine control lever)
- Ng (gas generator speed)
- Nf (power turbine speed)
- P3 (compressor discharge pressure)
- T2 (compressor inlet temperature)
