3.5 Motivation and retention
What are the benefits of a business motivating their employees?
( General )
1. Potential employees often want to work in a motivated work place. Staff are likely to reccomend their workplace.
2. Employees remain working for business to less time and money is needed for training. Skills and experience are kept within the business.
3. More motivation employees are likely to be more productive. Increased productivty leads to more revenue and higher profits.
3.5 Motivation and retention
Describe the different types of Financial methods of motivation
1. Fringe Benefits - Items an employee receive in addition to their normal wage/salary
Advantages;
- Can help employees save money on travel etc
Disadvantages;
- May not affect all employees
2. Pay - This is the money earned by employees as a reward for the work they do.
Advantages;
- Motivates employees as they receive a regular income.
Disadvantages;
- Increases business costs
3. Bonuses - A payment a worker recieves for meeting a certian target/objective.
Advantages;
- Good for employees as they will recieve the money even if the business does badly.

A) Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatement of different catergoeries of people, especially on the grounds of , age, or sex.
B) Showing an unfair dislike of someone.

What is the Equality Act 2010?
- The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society.
- It replaced previous anti-discrimination laws with a single Act.

What is the WTD?
- This is a European Union Directive, which creates the right for EU workers to a;
- minimum number of holidays each year, paid breaks, and rest of at least 11 hours any 24hours;
- This restricts excessive night work; and makes a default right to work no more than 48 hours a week

Describe the different impacts of the WTD
1. If employees take more breaks they will get less work done.
2. WTD leads to workers being less stressed, resulting in them being more productive.
3. If employees take more breaks they will be fresher and more productive.
4. If a business ignores the WTD it may be taken to court/fined ( which is costly and bad for reputation which may lower sales )
5. With a max of 48 hours, this restricts excessive night work. It may mean orders not met, thus business may have a decrease in sales/profits.
