Responsibilities of an employer
- Pay the minimum wage

What is an enterprise agreement?
An agreement negotiated between the employer and employee around wages and working conditions. Must be approved by Fair Work Commission.
What is discrimination?
Discrimination is treating a person or group, differently from others, based on their personal characteristics. e.g. sex, race, age, marital status, religion, political opinion.
Two conditions that must be present for discrimination to occur?
- The person must have been disadvantaged by the discrimination
- The discrimination must have resulted in a negative action. e.g. firing an employee
What test does the Fair Work Commission run to approve an enterprise agreement?
The “better off overall” test, to see whether the employee would be better off on the agreement rather than the award.
Who do you go to if you have been discriminated in the workplace?
The Fair Work Commission deals with any complaints about workplace discrimination. The Fair Work Ombudsman can also investigate the matter.
What is sexual harassment in the workplace?
Sexual harassment is any sexual behavior that is unwelcome or unwanted. It makes the victim feel offended, frightened, uncomfortable, embarrassed, initiated, ashamed, or humiliated.
Who deals with bullying in the workplace?
Fair Work Commission or health and safety organisations.
Factors that determine if there has been workplace bullying
- A person or group must have behaved unreasonably to a worker or group at work
- Must have occurred repeatedly
- Must have created a health and safety risk
What factors classify it as unfair dismissal?
It must be considered harsh, unjust, or unreasonable to be unfair dismissal.
What is summary dismissal?
Summary dismissal is when an employee is dismissed immediately on the spot as the employer believes their conduct is serious enough to justify their dismissal. e.g. violence, fraud, theft, drinking alcohol.
What is the economy?
The Australian Economy is all activities undertaken for the purpose of production, distribution, and consumption of all goods and services we require to satisfy our needs and wants.

What are natural resources?
Resources that come from nature, above or below ground. e.g fish from the ocean, wood from trees
