Heading
This contains the address you are sending your letter to
Recipient’s Address
A greeting which is always formal. Often begins with “Dear (name)”. Ends with a colon
Salutation
The meat of your letter
The body
A short and polite remark that ends your letter. Close with a comma
Complimentary close
The name to be signed is written here.
Signature line
You can indicate enclosed documents here. It is located below the typist’s initials.

This line provides emphasis (“Attention: Human Resources”)
Attention line
This line focuses on the letter’s actual purpose.
Subject or Reference line
This conveys information as quickly and efficiently as possible. The salutation and closing are no longer needed.
