Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

• primary piece of legislation which covers occupational health and safety in Great Britain.
• The H&S Executive, along with LA’s and other enforcing authorities are responsible for enforcing the act.
• The Act identifies the responsibilities of both employers and employees in relation to themselves and members of the public. It also sets out that all employees have a right to work in a place where risks to their own personal health and safety are controlled and therefore employers must make every attempt to ensure the maximum health and safety requirements as far as is reasonably practicable.
