- Move the vehicle to clear, open or already burnt ground, if possible, and remove flammable items (such as drip torch) from vehicle
- Activate the AVL (hold for 4 seconds)
- Turn on beacons and sirens (to assist rescuers in locating you from the ground or the air)
List four (4) things you should do if you are trapped in a fire on foot.
- Transmit an emergency message via your radio
- Move to open, clear or already burnt ground, if possible and remain aware of wind direction
- Move down hill or down slope, away from the fire (not uphill)
- Seek refuge in swamp, dam or lake (do not seek refuge in elevated water tanks)
List two (2) things you should look out for when patrolling the edge of a bushfire.
- Overhead tree branches which may be at risk of falling (widow makers)
- Weak spots in the fire line that may require your attention to strengthen
