6 indications for hospital admission in burn patients

A
  • Extent: 15% in adult and 10% in children
  • IV treatment required
  • Pain severe
  • Site: hand, face, joint and perineum
  • Depth: full thickness burns
  • Cylindrical burns: a significant proportion of the circumference around the neck, chest or a limb
  • Complications: such as smoke inhalation, electrical burns or non-accidental injury

How do you classify according to depth of burn

A
  • Superficial: only epidermal layer
  • Partial-thickness: epidermis, dermis, hair follicle and glandular tissue (deep)
  • Full-thickness: all layer of dermis, subcutaneous tissue
  • Extension to deep tissues: muscle or bone
