List the rule of 9 percentages for an adult
A
- head and neck = 9
- anterior trunk = 18
- posterior trunk = 18
- bilateral anterior arm = 9
- posterior arm = 9
- genital region = 1
- bilateral ant leg = 18
- bilateral post leg = 18

How does the rule of 9 change for an infant?
A
9% is taken from the LE and moved to the head and neck region. Each year of life, 1% is moved back to the LE until it is normal

What are superficial burns?
A
- limited to epidermis
- ex: redness, sunburns

What are superficial partial thickness burns?
A
- epidermis and papillary dermis damage
- these are PAINFUL
- blanching, serous blisters

What are deep partial thickness burns?
A
- extend into reticular dermis
- NOT painful!!!! But sensitive
- need skin grafts

What are full thickness burns?
A
- extend into subdermal plexus
- can’t heal from wound base
- leathery or brown eschar
- no sensation
