-circulatory shock (inadequate circulation of blood caused by low blood volume)
infection is leading cause of death in burn victims

A
only epidermis
-redness, pain, slight swelling
-sunburn

A
epidermis and upper dermis (papillary)
-redness, pain, edema, blisters

third degree burns
A
destroys epidermis and dermis; burned area is painless
-gray/white or black
-regeneration is not possible

critical burns
A
-over 25% of body has second degree
-over 10% of body has third degree burns
-third degree burns on face, hands, or feet
