Full thickness burns ≥ 5% TBSA significant burns that involve the:
- Face
- Hands
- Feet
- Genitalia
- Perineum
- Major joints

Electrical/Lighting Burns

Inhalation Injury

Criteria 5
A
Significant burn injury in Pts w/ pre-existing medical disorders
that could complicate management, prolong recovery, or affect
mortality, such as:
- Diabetes
- Cardiac disease
- Pulmonary disorders
- Pregnancy
- Cirrhosis
- Morbid obesity
- Immunosuppression
- Bleeding disorders

Initial Actions/Considerations
A
- General Impression
- LOC
- ABC’s (O2, Vent)/Consider Airway Management if suspected
- Remove Clothes, Jewelry, or other constrictive Items
- Keep Warm
- HX & Vitals
- Determined Burn TBSA or Circumferential Burns
- Consider Abuse (Elderly/Ped)
- No IM Pain Meds thru Burnt skin
- If Electrical in Nature, ensure scene safety 1st & anticipate arrhythmias (3 lead)
- Lighting = Reverse Triage

- 2 Large Bore IV/IO Access & LR (if >10%)
- Leave Blisters intact & cover w/ a Burn Sheet/Dry Sterile Dressing/Clean Sheet
- Pain management (Ketamine)
- Cardiac Monitor & End Tidal
- Calcium & Albuterol (Compartment Syndrome)
- Provide Direct Etele & Rapid Transport
