Superficial burn
Epidermis
Red with slight edema
No evidence of scarring
2-5 days
Superficial partial thickness burn
Epidermis and upper dermis
Extremely painful with blisters
Minimal to go scarring
5-21 days
Deep partial thickness burn
Complete destruction of epidermis and majority of dermis
Discolored with broken blisters and edema
Nerve ending damage = mod pain
Hypertrophic or keloid scar
If no infection 21-35 days
Full thickness burns
Complete destruction of epidermis and dermis along with partial damage to the subcutaneous fat layer
Eschar with min pain
Require grafts, susceptible to infection
Couple of weeks dep on size
Subdermal burn
Complete destruction of epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue
May involve muscle and bone
Multiple surgeries and extensive healing time
