What is the purpose of lateral marks?
Indicate the port and starboard-hand sides of the route to be followed.

Two triangles pointing upwards.

What do cardinal marks show?
They show the safe side of passing a hazard
Describe an isolated danger mark
Black, red, black buoy
Two black balls on top of buoy.
What is the purpose of an isolated danger mark?
They are used to mark small, isolated dangers with navigable water around the buoy.
Describe a safe watermark
Red and white vertical stripes which alternate all the way round. Singular red ball on top of buoy
What is the purpose of a safe water buoy?
To indicate that there is navigable water all around the mark and do not mark a danger
Describe a special mark
Any shape. Yellow in colour. X-shaped top mark
What is the purpose of a special mark?
To indicate a special area or feature, that has no navigational significance.
Describe an emergency wreck
Blue/Yellow vertical stripes are in equal numbers of dimensions. Pillar or spar shape. Yellow cross on top.
