BUMED 6220.9B Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention and Control Program Flashcards
What is encouraged of civilian personnel, to include volunteers, because of their contact with patients?
Influenza vaccine
What is the goal of the HAIPC?
To have zero tolerance for HAIs, taking action to prevent or minimize effects of such adverse events
Why is infection surveillance essential to the HAIPC Program?
Critical in identifying outbreaks, emerging ID, antibiotic-resistant organisms (ARO), and bioterrorist events so that infection prevention measures can be instituted
When is HAI procedures training for staff?
During in-doc, annually, and as needed
What is the exemption to the seasonal influenza vaccine?
Documented medical or religious reason
Where are serious injuries, prolonged disability, or death reported?
Regardless of AD status, must be reported to Patient Safety and Risk Management locally and at BUMED
Define critical devices.
Confer a high risk for infection if they are contaminated with any microorganism, including bacterial spores
When are infection considered HAI?
Infection occurs more than 48 hours after the time of admission or treatment
Define non-critical devices.
Do not ordinarily touch the patient or touch only intact skin
What is an example of a non-critical item?
Blood pressure cuff
Define semi-critical device.
Devices contact mucous membranes or non-intact skin
What is required under the two basic conditions for clinical denistry?
The application of infection control measures to mitigate the risk of cross-contamination
Define OPIM.
Other potentially infectious materials (OPIM)
