*Building Finishes and Materials Flashcards
What is the flooring radiant panel test?
ASTM E648
This test measures a carpet’s ability to spread flame in a corridor or exitway when a fully developed fire is nearby. This test also measures the distance of any flame spread that occurs.
What is the methamine pill test?
ASTM D2859 or the methenamine pill test, is also called the Standard Method for Ignition Characteristics of Finished Textile Floor Covering Materials.
This pass/fail test measures the size of the burn to determine flame resistance of textile floor coverings. — simply put: does it burn?
A methenamine tablet (or pill) is ignited on the tested material, simulating a scenario that would be similar to if someone dropped a lit cigarette on the floor.
What is the vertical ignition test?
NFPA 701
measures the flammability of draperies, curtains, and other window treatments.
What is the Steiner Tunnel Test?
ASTM E84
tests the flame spread rating of Interior Finishes and Building Materials, specifically wall and ceiling finishes.
What is NFPA 258 (ASTM E662)
Standard Test Method for Specific Optical Density of Smoke Generated by Solid Materials
measures smoke density in lab conditions.
