What was Buddha’s background?
He was a wealthy, and rich person. He was kept inside away from all of human suffering.
Why did Buddha go through asceticism?
He went through a self-denial stage (to understand the suffering humans went through for 6 years)
What did Buddha do instead after 6 years of starving himself?
He decided to eat normally, but turned to meditation instead. He did this for 49 days and nights. He then became enlightened and has divine wisdom (Bhodi)
What is Nirvana?
Place where the mind goes (like heaven, with Buddha, eternal peace) and then the body is reunited with the mind in Nirvana once you reach death.
What did Buddha reject?
He rejected the material world, and things we associated with in our lives. “you are suffering because you care too much.”

What are values of Buddhism?
extinguishing oneself, and focusing on something other than oneself
Who/ what do Buddhist worship?
They worship humanity, and all try to stop caring about things that don’t matter. They pay honor towards Buddha, but don’t worship him directly.
Where can Buddhist practice?
At a temple, or home

Vesak, Magha Puja
