Buddhism
a non-theistic faith with no God to worship, founded by prince Sidhatta Guatama who left his castle to see the world is full of suffering.
Tripitaka
translates to “3 baskets” and consists of 3 sections: the Vinaya Pitaka, the Sutta Pitaka and the Abhidhamma Pitaka.
Vinaya Pitaka
refers to discipline and contains the rules and regulations for monks and nuns.
Sutta Pitaka
known as the Buddha Serman it is the collection of the sayings and teachings of the Buddha, as well as stories about his life.
Abhidhamma Pitaka
referring to higher knowledge it explores the contents of the first two baskets and provides philosophical commentaries on the Buddha’s teachings.
The Human Purpose (Buddhism)
all humans are bound by the laws of karma and samsara. To be liberated one must adhere to dharma in order to live a life of karma.
Three Jewels of Buddhism
Buddha (the teacher), Sangha (the community) and Dharma (the teachings).
Dharma (Buddhism)
refers to the teachings of Buddha contained in the sacred scriptures. It reveals the truth about existence and leads adherents to remove all causes of suffering.
Four Noble Truths
all life involves suffering (Dukkha), suffering is a result of your desires, suffering can end, the middle path or way

The Middle Path
a core concept in Buddhism that refers to a balanced approach to life, avoiding the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification.
Karma
the universal law of causality that binds people to the wheel of Samsara. It is accrued through intentional acts.
Three Poisons
greed, anger, ignorance
Three Antidotes
loving kindness, generosity, wisdom
Samsara (Buddhism)
similar to Hinduism however based upon ones karma they are reborn into one of six realism three of which are good and three bad.
Nirvana
a state where a soul ceases to exist and is finally completely free from suffering.
The Eightfold Path
outlines the path to liberation from suffering and achieving enlightenment through eight interconnected practices focused on wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental discipline
