He had never left and therefore never seen anything bad.

What is enlightenment?
Reaching the state of peace and understandings.
What is the cycle of samsara?
You are born, you die and you are then reborn again into a new life in a new realm.
How can you break free from samsara and reach nirvana?
Become enlightened.
What is karma?
Natural consequences at rebirth.
What are the 3 poisons?
Hatred
Ignorance
Greed
What are the 6 realms of samsara?
-Demi gods: jealousy
-hell: anger
-hungry ghosts: crave things
-gods: self obsessed
-human: enlightenment
-animal: scavengers
Which realm can you become enlightened in?
Only the human realm.
What are the three Jewell’s of refuge?
-the Buddha
-the Dhamma
-the Sangha
What are the 8 fold path?
Ethics: right speech, right action, right livelihood.
Wisdom: right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration
Meditation: right understanding, right intention.
What is Dukkha?
Suffering.
What is Anicca?
Everything changes, nothing stays the same and nothing lasts.
What are the 3 marks of existence?
Dukkha
Anicca
Anatta
What is an example of Anicca in real life?
Flowers dying.
Hair greying.
What does Anicca do?
Convinces you to accept death, not let it upset you and just let it go.
What is anatta?
There is no real you or real self, you are just 5 heaps.
What are the 5 skandas ( heaps)
-form
-sensation
-perceptions
-mental formations
-consciousness
What is dependant arising?
That life is an interconnected web.
What are the 4 noble truths?
-Dukkha (suffering)
-the causes of suffering (cravings and the three poisons)
-overcoming suffering
-the eighth fold path
What does the parable of the poisoned arrow show?
Instead of focusing on the origin of the universe and unanswerable questions, focus on the now. It is more important that the man recieved treatment for his wound (relief from suffering) than finding where the arrow came from (origins of the universe).
Origins of the universe: Buddhism:
-there is no creator
-accept the Big Bang theory
-rather end suffering
-the universe is a cycle: there is no beginning or end.
