Describe the four sights
Old man - Everyone Ages
Sick man - Sickness is part of life
Corpse - Death comes to all
Ascetic Hindu Monk - Inspires him to end suffering
What is the middle Way and how are the four sights connected to it?
Is balanced path between two much pleasure and too much suffering. The Four sights showed Siddhartha that Neither extreme could solve life’s problem.
what are the three characteristics of existence?
Suffering(Dukkha)
Impermanence (Anicca)
Non-Self (Anatta)

Impermanence (Anicca) - Everything changes
Non-Self (Anatta) - Self is not permanent
What are the five precepts?
Abstain from killing
Abstain from stealing
Abstain from improper sexual conduct
Abstain from false speech
Abstain from drugs and Alcohol
what are the differences between Theravada school and Mahayana school of Buddhism?
Theravada Beliefs: Humans are Individuals, virtue/wisdoms, Arhat, Buddha is a saint.
Mahayana beliefs: humans are involved with others, Virtue/compassion, Religion is for lay people, Bodhisattva, buddha was a saviour.
Theravada Practices: Pray through meditation.
Mahayana Practices: Pray for request.
Define Jatakas, Dhammapada, haiku, Koans
Jatakas - Stories of Buddhas past life
Dhammapada - Buddhas Teaching about ethics
Haiku - poems following 5-7-5 syllable rule
Koans - Phrases/questions that need response

Thoughts -free mind of desires

Mindset -Aware of your thoughts/actions
Concentration - Practice meditation to focus the mind

The purpose of the five preps is to guide people towards ethical living, reduce harm and self control.

Cause of suffering is attachment
Suffering can be defeated
