Ethics of care
Emphasises interdependency knowledge
-Requires knowledge of others in order to be able to “care”
-Humans are social beings that exist in a web
-Consider others but not at expense of self
Notion of dwelling
-Actively engage with others
-Assume others have a valid and informed point of view to share
-Stay with the present and factors which have shaped it rather than immediately looking to the future
-Trust that a solution will emerge from the process, be willing to be moved
Discourse ethics
Deliberative process (Tree ethic)
-Transparency
-Representativeness
-Open mindedness
-Equality of power
The outcome should be a new solution, not a compromise
Postmodern ethics
-Question the rules
-Listen to emotions
-Trust your gut instinct
Challenges:
-Ultimate relativism, does anything go?
Pluralistic perspective
-Does this benefit the majority
-Do we violate anyone’s rights?
Have we discussed with relevant stakeholders?
