BS 8500 (2023) Flashcards
How does BS EN 206 and BS8500 relate to each other?
BS EN 206 is a European standard. BS 8500 provides additional provision specific to UK
What are the key differences between 2015 version and 2023 version of BS8500
- 2015 had option of one SCM. 2023 has multi component SCM
- Characteristic strength does not any more govern resistance to XD and XS class. reducing the risk of low clinker cements being ruled out.
- Characteristic strength is the limiting factor for XC. Depth of carbonation and strength were observed to have a strong correlation.
Explain this notation CEM II/C-M (S-L)
CEM II - Portland composite cement
C - Proportion of CEM. C stands for lowest.
M - Shows that its multicomponent cement
S - Slag in high proportion because its stated first
L - Limestone lower in proportion because stated last
List family of common cements
- CEM I - Portland cement
- CEM II - Portland - Composite cement
- CEM III - Blast furnace cement
- CEM IV - Pozzolanic cement
- CEM V - Composite cement
How are sulphate attack resistance categorised under the new code
Categorised between A-G. A resulting in lowest resistance
How are chloride ingress resistance categorised under the new code
Categorised between 1-4. 1 providing the lowest resistance
