A political system in which power is held by a small number of people. Upper Canada (family compact) Lower Canada (chateau clique)
What is responsible government?
A system in which a government is accountable to an electorate through regular elections

A temporary alliance between 2 political parties
What is tithe?
Money given by members of a congregation to support the church

Head of British forces in Canada in the war of 1812
Who was Tecumseh?
A Shawnee First Nation leader who was an ally to the British
Who was Lord Durham?
The Governor General who was sent to canada after the rebellions in 1837 to determine what the problems were
What was the Sermen du test?
An oath to the Anglican Church that the Catholics had to take if they wanted to be a part of the government. Shows how little power they had, and how British controlled and wanted to get rid of French culture
What are some British challenges after the seven years war?
British didn’t trust French, thought they were going to rebel and become allies with Americans. British ignored FN and didn’t want anything to do with them

They both used newspapers to spread word about the reform
