A

From 1975-1976 a new subculture was born- the punk movement. New bands like the Sex Pistols, New York Dolls and The Damned adopted a new style of DIY attitude with ripped t-shirts and spiked hair.

Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren opened a shop called SEX on the Kings Road in Chelsea, London which was incredibly influential on the punk image. The bands appeared at BBC shows and would promote left wing views in their songs singing about unemployment, racism and repression

A

There was an establishment of the Department of the Environment which had the aims for renewal, improvement and protection of the environment. The Green Party launched in 1973 with Doomwatch airing raising awareness of the steady increase of environmental issues.
