- September 1950, communist North Korea invades capitalist South Korea
- Truman calls on United Nations to send peace keeping forces
- Britain sends a few troops
- NATO success at first but soon got cocky and china joined to push back
- ended in July 1953

- 700 British killed
- 34,000 Americans killed

- Involvement mostly American
- demonstrated the ‘special relationship’ between Britain and America
- communism didn’t spread further showing UN as effective
- NATO established permanent military beurocracy

- still a death toll
- capitalism stayed in the same borders as before so war and deaths seemed futile
- Britain was already suffering economically and war funding made it worse

- 1956
- Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal and rejected British control
- suez was vital for British trade and income
- pact formed with France and Israel to secure it again
- action and invasion happened too fast so suspicion placed on government

- angered the Americans (who our economy relied heavily on)
- Eden resigned in shame
- showed the world we weren’t as strong as we used to be
