Brightwood_Chapter 15_Programming And Space Needs Flashcards
Programming is often performed in 3 phases
- State Broad Objectives
- Function Requirements by Size and Relationships
- Detailed Requirements
An effective format for organizing programmatic information is the division of information into…
{FFET} - FUNCTION, FORM, ECONOMY, & TIME.
FUNCTION
Considers objectives, methods of achieving them, and human needs.
FORM
Considers the site, the character of the physical environment, spatial aspects, and pertinent structural aspects.
ECONOMY
Considers the construction budget, as well as long-term operating costs.
TIME
Considers the schedules of design, construction, and occupancy.
Each Phase in Programming can be undertaken through a 5-step Process:
- Establish Objectives
- Collect, Organize, and Analyze Data
- Formulate Relationships
- Establish Priorities
- State the Problem

NET AREA/ GROSS AREA
NUMERIC METHOD
Physical facilities can be classified by groups called “USE CATEGORIES” each of which requires a specific amount of space.
